Not Mother Nature!! She's a punk!

Hello all!! I'm taking a break from studying for my international econ final. Tomorrow, after two additional long hours of hell, this year's MAIR peeps will be ecstatically finished with this class and ready to move on with their lives. I don't know how I truly feel about the whole situation. The course has been incredibly difficult--due mostly to the fact that a good majority of us have been less than fond of the prof...he's a nice guy, just not the best teacher. But I gotta admit, he certainly has been the nicest about America of all my professors up here. He did his Ph.D. at Chicago, has worked in Washington (state, not D.C.), and doesn't fall into that camp of America-bashers. Not that my other profs do, but let's just say that the Canadians that I've met here in Toronto (which I hear is differs a bit from the rest of the country) have a slightly different view of America than America has of itself.
...yet, if we think about it, that's probably true for every country in the world. Unless you truly live in a place and understand the customs and the cultural contextes that have shaped the local populace's personalities and general outlooks, you can't really competently say "The X's are like ABC." I don't confess to know the ends and outs of the Canadian psyche...if there is even one that we could point to, as this country is so incredibly diverse...but I can say that my first semester in the Collaborative Masters Programme in International Relations here at the University of Toronto has definitely given me a perspective on world order and world politics that I would say is greatly enlightened in comparison to the one I came up here with.
Well, anyhoo, back to econ...if I wouldn't have come up here to U of T, I would have stayed in St. Louis and pursued a Masters in Economics. The topic greatly intrigues me, and therefore I guess the only thing I can say is I'm happy to be done with the course but not so happy to be done studying the subject for the time being. Oh, well. That's enough for now. I gotta get back to studying now.
Hope everyone has a good Tuesday!!
Cheers,
Bethie Marie

I'd appreciate it very much!! Thank you!
...an afterthought...I just visited Steve's site and I gotta say that all this crap that's going on about JOTW stuff is really sad. I remember that when I won JOTW in August I was so incredibly happy. I have put a ton of effort and time into my journal from day one, and the reward for all that energy made everything about it so sweet. Steve writes that peeps have been sending him hate mail if their site isn't chosen. HATE MAIL!? COME ON PEOPLE. This is ridiculous. It's tragic when a few sour apples ruin a good thing for everyone else.
And Steve, why the changes with your journal? I'm sorry dude, I think you're awesome, but why the drastic measures? No more holly-jolly Hoolio, no more friends list, no more fun social environment. Remember when some of us were getting some rude tags on our tag boards and you advised us to just delete the trash and ignore the idiots. That was a great solution, as those of us who were targeted by the trash were able to move on and continue to enjoy our journals. Now I'll admit that I don't know the whole situation, but I gotta say that it's truly unfortunate that you let some stupid bums ruin it for you.
And to the stupid bums: YOU SUCK! Get a frickin' life and grow up. Do you truly think that sending hate mail to Steve is going to suddenly make you JOTW material?? Yeah, whatever.
You not only ruined your chances of ever being JOTW, but also ruined it for the peeps that actually deserve it.
In conclusion: mean people suck and need to get over themselves.
bethie...when i was young i would have said it exactly the same way....good on ya gal.....stay warm pheebs
Beth, although I've apparently been instrumental in this "situation", I don't vote for myself, don't know if anyone ever has and definitely haven't ever sent hate mail. Some people were accussing of that but its' a lie, in fact, maybe its' the same people sending STeve hate mail! At any rate, that's no my style.
